In USA there are over 2,000 universities and colleges that provide four-year programs to earn a bachelor’s degree. Annually over a million of people get such degree in the States. Students usually required to take 120+ credits, that are used towards major and elective courses. In some cases, students decide to pursue a minor as well. Major is an academic area of interest and potential field of employment. Minor is a secondary academic discipline during undergraduate studies. .

In USA students are not required to declare major and minor before starting education, they typically have two years to decide which disciplines to study. During the first two years students are taking courses in English composition, math, history, science, whereas during last two years courses are directly related to selected major and minor. Some of the programs that are typically offered by most universities are: agriculture and veterinary medicine, applied and pure sciences, architecture and construction, business and management, computer science and IT, creative arts and design, education and training, engineering, personal care and fitness, health and medicine, humanities, law, social studies and media, travel and hospitality.

Typically, American academic calendar consists of two regular semesters that run from September to December (Fall Semester) and January to May (Spring Semester). Some students might decide to take summer courses, that might be offered online or on-campus. Most of the universities require that international undergraduate students take one or more of the following tests: SAT or ACT, as well as IELTS or TOEFL.
